![]() Poppen Hospice ResidenceThe Poppen Hospice Residence opened in 2005 to serve people who are terminally ill. There are fourteen private patient rooms in a facility that serves the needs of the whole family. When home care is not the best answer, when there is no one to be caregiver, when the caregiver is frail, or when medical needs are complicated, residential care is available. Hospice care surrounds the patient with the medical, emotional, and spiritual care they need. A professional team supports the family as they face the death of their loved one.
The Leila and Cyrus Poppen House Hospice Residence exemplifies the unique vision of Harbor Hospice to provide dignity for dying and hope for living. The Poppen house was designed around the pillow. When a patient is too weak to get out of bed, their experience from the bed becomes even more important. The Poppen home was designed and built from the patient’s perspective to maximize comfort in a home-like environment where visiting family can feel welcome and relaxed. It is unlike any other setting for hospice.
Patients at the Poppen Hospice Residence pay a daily room and board fee, unless they are admitted under the General Inpatient level of care or have private insurance that covers residential hospice care.
Harbor Hospice patients may chose to stay at the residence in lieu of hospitalization when intensive symptom management is needed. Located on beautiful wooded acreage, near the Lakes Mall in Fruitport Township, the residence is easily accessible from US-31 or I-96. Poppen Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteers are an essential part of the hospice residence. They act as receptionists and are the first face you see as you enter the building. Volunteers help cook; they are companions to patients; they help with the gardening; do hair and nails; and offer comfort to the patients and their families in whichever way it is needed.
