Physician & Provider Hospice care is medical care that uniquely serves a population of patients who are dying. Good hospice care is the most medically appropriate choice for some patients, giving the dying and their families the time they need to adjust, to laugh and cry a little more, to say goodbye, and to begin managing the grieving process. Hospice care is not giving up…it’s giving a new hope by restoring choice and control to the dying patient and their family. Harbor Hospice is dignity for dying and hope for living.
Dr. Gerald Harriman joined Harbor Hospice in 2006 as a part-time medical director and transitioned to full-time in June of 2007. Prior to this time he was a board-certified Family Physician, and in private solo practice for over 21 years. He is a 1985 graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he continues as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Harriman became certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in the inaugural year of the Osteopathic Examination in 2009. He finds this field of medicine to be truly challenging and extremely rewarding. When not working Dr. Harriman enjoys his family, reading, writing and running.
Dr. Sara Dora is our other Hospice Physician. She moved to the area from Seattle in 1980 with her husband, Dr. David Dora. She is a graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Dora is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine beginning 1985 to present. She practiced Emergency Medicine at Hackley Hospital until 2006 when she joined Harbor Hospice. She became Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in December of 2010. Dr. Dora appreciates the opportunity to work with Dr. Harriman, the staff of Harbor Hospice, the patients and their families. It is gratifying to her to be able to continue the working relationships she has with the physicians of this community.
