Camp Courage is a two-night, three day camping experience for children ages 6-12 who are grieving the loss of a loved one or close friend. The camp is open to approximately 30-40 children with priority given to those who have experienced the loss of a parent or sibling. Children who have experienced the loss of a friend or grandparent will be considered if they are having a difficult time with the loss. Staffing consists of camp counselors as well as Harbor Hospice personnel and trained volunteers from the community.
Camp Courage is held at the Camp Pioneer Trails, which is located in northern Muskegon County. A $10 registration fee is processed at the time of application. No other fees are charged for attending this camp. Grief related activities are designed to help children express their feelings about the loss. Our goal is to provide a safe place for children to share and interact with others who share a similar loss. We hope to help the children identify a healthy support system and find new, more effective ways of coping. In addition to the grief activities, children have plenty of time to enjoy the many camp activities that are available to them such as archery, swimming, boating, fishing and arts and crafts.
